Integrating Cultural Competency, Human Rights, Child Welfare
Policy
RESEARCH PAPER
Evidence based practice paper on a global child advocacy
issue. Students will choose a country and describe the following: identified
child advocacy problems in the country, sex-trade trafficking, position on the
U.N. declaration of children’s rights, usual family configuration and treatment
of the child and other relevant health and welfare issues. The body of this scholarly
paper will be a total of 5-6 pages in length, not including references or title
page.
This assignment is designed to assist students with the
integration of cultural issues as they apply to the area of child maltreat in a
selected country.
Research Paper (46 points)
The rubric that I will use to grade this paper is available
to you in the Blackboard dropbox for the assignment.
1-Select a country or region or cultural group- DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
2- Choose a form of child maltreatment/abuse/trauma experienced by the people
in your selected area.
3- Discuss the culture, identified issue, and the relationship between the two
(2-3 pages).
4. Discuss how this issue of child maltreatment may impact this cultural group
similarly and/or differently to the culture at large (1 page)
5- What are the region’s laws and child welfare policy (1 page)
6- What interventions would, or could, be utilized? Are there any policies that need to be
created to address the concern? (1/2 page)
7- Discuss how someone in a career related to your chosen major
would advocate for children in this country. (1/2 page)
Note: Your responses to
items 2-5 should be entirely based on scholarly references and websites (see
below). Your responses to items 6-7 can
be your opinion but should be well-thought out, relevant to the identified
child maltreatment issue, based on course materials and resources, and thoroughly
described and appropriate for your major.
Format
The body of the paper should be double-spaced, using 12-point font
and 1” margins on all sides.
References
Your reference page can be in any style (APA, MLA, Chicago) but
must be consistent to the style you’ve chose.
In other words, don’t mix reference styles.
Include a minimum of 6 references from professional journals. You
can find these using databases available to you on the Butler Library
Website. You can use databases for
Psychology such as PsycInfo or Sociology.
Other databases can also be used as long as they help you find scholarly
journals.
You may also use the websites that have been used as class
resources this semester. These should be
in addition to the 6 references from professional journals (not instead
of). Please do not use other websites
without first consulting me about the quality of the site.
In-text Citations
You must also cite your sources
within the text of your paper. Please
include a citation for ALL factual information included in your paper.
You should follow the author-date
method of in-text citation. This means that the author’s last name and the year
of publication for the source should appear in the text, like, for example,
(Jones, 1998). One complete reference for each source should appear in the
reference list at the end of the paper.
If you are referring to an idea from another
work but NOT directly quoting the material, or making
reference to an entire book, article or other work, you only have to make
reference to the author and year of publication and not the page number in your
in-text reference.
On the other hand, if you are directly
quoting or borrowing from another work, you should include the page number at
the end of the parenthetical citation. Use the abbreviation “p.” (for one page)
or “pp.” (for multiple pages) before listing the page number(s). Use an en dash
for page ranges. For example, you might write (Jones, 1998, p. 199) or (Jones,
1998, pp. 199–201).
Here are two examples for how you might use in-text
citations in your paper.
According to Jones (1998), APA style is a difficult citation
format for first-time learners.
APA style is a difficult citation format for first-time learners
(Jones, 1998, p. 199).
Here are two sources already found for you. Four more sources are needed.
