Major Project 2: Pitch Bible
We’ve learned about genre conventions, practiced composing within a genre to
specific audiences, and talked about the stakes of every argument and how to
present your arguments and claims in the most efficient way. Throughout the
quarter, we’ve also discussed shifts in rhetorical situations, and how purposes and
contexts affect rhetorical choice. Now it is time to use these skills in order to
compose your own argument, make your own rhetorical choices, and decide what
you want to say and why that is important.
This assignment asks that you engage with all four course outcomes and hone the
above skills to persuasively present a project that excites you. It could be a
proposal for a campaign, an adaptation of a text, a documentary film, a book, a
podcast, or even a research project. It is up to you if you want to make something
creative or if you want to do something that relates to your own research interest.
The point with this assignment is that you are going to think through a whole
project and show me that it matters. Because of this, it needs to be something you
are actually invested in.
Your Task
Your final assignment will consist of multiple parts that culminate in a large
multimodal project. Your task is to create a Pitch Bible. In television and film
production, a Pitch Bible is a tool that helps convey your creative concept. A Pitch
Bible gives a sense of the tone, purpose, audience, and essence of your proposed
project to persuade an audience to produce, finance, or collaborate on your creative
endeavor. Even if a Pitch Bible is usually used for a creative project, it can also be
adapted to something that is more research heavy. In other words, it does not really
matter what kind of project you choose; what matters is that you create an
impactful project that you can present well.
I am not going to give too many perimeters for this project, as I really want you to
be creative and find your own voice here. Because of this, we are going to discuss
the project thoroughly in class and I will be giving some examples of what kind of
projects you could consider. In addition to that, we are doing a proposal and first
draft for SA5 and SA6 so we can make sure you are on the right track and that you
feel confident in your project.
