DQ The “Sexualized” context of Burglary
One of my many stops during my career with the MADOC, was working with the sex offender population at the Massachusetts Treatment Center. It was during this time that I learned that there was a sexual component behind and associated to burglaries, breaking and entering, and breaking and entering in the nighttime. There is also a section of this chapter that covers this. So my question to you here is: What does the “sexualized context” of burglary mean? & How can burglary have a sexual component or motivation?
As part of the internal screening process for “dangerousness”, most offenders convicted for burglary types of crimes are assessed for a civil committment (determing if a person is sexually dangerous) prior to release from state custody. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think that the criminal justice system is right in this approach to public safety? Or do you think the mass screening of burglars for sexual dangerousness goes too far and is an infringement on someone’s rights? What are your thoughts on this matter?
