The response must be 12 Times New Roman, font, APA. Below are the 2 student essays: (Asbel M.) Student essay #1 Is nursing a career or a job Nursing is a noble profession in healthcare that has been labelled names like ‘caregiving’ because it generally entails taking care of the unwell, whether in hospital, at clinics or at home with a view to restore healthy wellbeing of individuals and in turn maintain a good quality of life. By the virtue of the fact that nursing requires specialized education and training that leads to professional licensing, it is considered a profession. The reason why nursing is not just a job like any other is because, like in any other career, there are standard operating procedures and standards, ethics and regulations that each nurse must adhere to. Therefore, nursing is a career full of so many opportunities in the health care sector, and not just a cash cow for people who are not willing to display the commitment and perseverance required in nursing. As a nurse, the most important goal would be to ensure that there is no doubt to the quality of care I give to patients because it is they that the whole nursing profession is built around. I would also ensure that I continue to further my education in nursing so as to continue to advance myself individually and to ensure that I learn about new skills and care methods. The ultimate goal would be to become an expert in the field and eventually be able to train other nurses in the future. Describe the steps you would take to prepare yourself to interview for your ideal future Nursing role? For such an interview, the most important thing would be to acknowledge that my nursing skills and academic papers won’t amount to much if I cannot get past the interview phase. Therefore, with this in mind the first step would be to conduct extensive research, which I would look at in two ways; within and without. Within, in the sense that I would do a thorough self-assessment, identify my weaknesses and strengths and work on them. The other one would basically be extensive research on the position I am interviewing for, the hospital/ institution I would love to work at, and even the interviewers (if they are known to me). Therefore, it would be very crucial to understand the institution’s culture and norms, and try to incorporate these things to my answers for the interview. I would also ensure to put my documents in order, for instance my nursing degree, relevant certification and any awards that would be a bargaining chip for me. Lastly, I would take time to sufficiently prepare for the interview to prevent last minute delays and disappointments. This coupled with ensuring that I look professional by the interviewer’s and the profession’s standards would also be a top priority to ensure that I look and feel confident. Student essay #2 Nursing refers to the practice of providing autonomous and encompassing care to individuals of all ages, communities, and groups, well or sick and in all settings. A nurse, on the other hand, is a person that has completed a program of primary generalized nursing education and is authorized by appropriate regulatory authorities to practice nursing in their country (Buppert, 2017). Nursing is a career to some while to others; it is merely a job. In this article, I explain my view of nursing, in essence, whether it is a career or a job and my personal goals related to nursing. The report concludes with steps I would take in preparing myself for an interview for an ideal future nursing role. Q 1. The term career refers to an occupation that requires specialized training that is undertaken for a significant period of a person’s life and presents the person with opportunities for growth (Atak, Atik, &Ceylan, 2016). A job, on the other hand, is a task allocated a person for which they get paid (Atak et al., 2016). From the definitions, therefore, the difference between a job and a career is that a job is something done to earn money while a career gets made for a longer time to get better employment opportunities. From the definitions made above, therefore, I view nursing as a career, and not merely as a job. The reason for classifying nursing as a career is because firstly, Atak et al. (2016) define a career as an occupation that requires specialized training, and nurses undertake specialized training. Secondly, I intend to pursue nursing for a significant part of my life, which, according to Atak et al. (2016), differentiates a career from a job. I continuously look for opportunities for growth in nursing, looking forward to the next better growth that I can get. Some of the professional goals that I intend to achieve related to nursing include providing excellent patient-centered care, focusing on continuing education in the medical field, and eventually becoming an expert. In the next six years, I would wish to have attained a Masters in Psychiatric Nursing, which will draw me closer to my goal of becoming an expert in the nursing field. Q 2. There are several steps that one can take in preparation for an interview. Some of the steps that apply for the preparation of almost all interviews include analyzing the job, researching the interviewing company, practicing interviewing, getting interview clothing ready, and practicing interview etiquette. Following the above interview preparation techniques, some of the steps I would take in preparing for a future interview for my ideal future nursing role include learning the routine of the company, rehearsing some nursing interview questions, ensure that I am in excellent health through eating well and getting enough sleep, and dressing professionally on the interview day. The essentiality of learning the routine of the company is to avoid confusion in healthcare companies, which, according to Dixon and Knapp (2018), are often large institutions. The rehearsal of some nursing interview questions is necessary since it helps reduce anxiety by making the interview process familiar. It is of essentiality to ensure that one is of excellent health before an interview, for best impressions on appearances. Also, dressing in a professional manner improves on appearances and communicates to interviewers that you take them and the job seriously. References Atak, M., Atik, İ., &Ceylan, İ. (2016).
