Quantitative analysis

• Select some numerical data from your school context. To complete all the tasks below you will need data that includes more than one achievement score for each student and some kind of target grade or level; ideally include some additional student data such as their teacher, EAL level, age, nationality etc. Please ensure you anonymise all students, staff and the school. If your school data do not allow you to demonstrate all of the skills below, add additional fictional data columns so that you can complete all the tasks. If you choose school data that is relevant to your final assignment you can use this analysis as part of your submission at the end of the module, if you wish.

• Access whatever support you need to be able to carry out all the skills listed overleaf on the data set you have chosen.

• Upload the completed checklist of skills (next page), the spreadsheet, your choice of data presentation, and the questions you would ask next as a result of your analysis. The checklist should give a column or cell reference to show where each skill has been demonstrated (eg ‘column H’, ‘cell B67’, ‘page 2 paragraph 1’)

• This material should be combined into a single document for uploading. It can take any format; formal referencing is not required but please credit sources as necessary to ensure you avoid plagiarism. Bullet points or hand written notes are acceptable. Please ensure that any scanned images are large enough that the text is clearly legible on screen – this may mean you need to use several images across several pages to include your whole spreadsheet at a legible size.

• This task is equivalent to an academic assignment of 300 words – the emphasis is not on length but on the quality of your thinking and the development of your skills.
