This should be submitted in Office 2003 version or later as a (.doc or docx) file type or as an .RTF document. All work must be double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman font with Word default margins.
Section A: The Dangers of a Single Story (45 points) This should be at least 150 words. Watch the video, provided to you on Canvas “The Dangers of a Single Story” Chimananda Ngozi Adichie argues that the best way to really control a religion, or group of people is to tell just one story about them and make it their reality. We have examined the very real consequences when this happens.
So for the this Assignment, in order to send us back into the world with some positive movement forward, you are going to try to do what Adichie recommends as the answer to this danger and create a “balance” of stories for one religion or group usually defined by a single story. You will choose a religion or group in the United States who are often represented by a single story and replace that with a balance of story/stories. How do you think the repetition of a single story can affect an individual in that religion or group? How far can a single story go? What is the misconception? This should be at least 150 words.
Section B: (45 points) This should be at least 150 words. Understanding race and racism or why this could be the important topic to study. We are also learning religions through social, cultural, political issues and understand that race and topics of racism are no less urgent and relevant now as they were then. For instance: Prophet Muhammad-declare No person is above another by virtue of race or ethnicity, except by piety and good actions. Watch the videos and readings provided, and what have you learned from the past months/years or anything else that you want to include to write a reflection on racism/racism and religion (or search more perhaps through the Internet). You can also include the following in your reflection, about skin-tone bias, women skin lightening and colorism after America’s current issue on race that people are talking about.
