Prepare a business report on micro environment of a chosen business.
Context:
Businesses in the modern marketplace cannot afford to ignore the environments in which
they operate. To navigate this vast and ever-changing landscape, businesses must keep a
keen eye on micro environmental factors that influence them. By completing this
assessment, you will demonstrate the importance of understanding and assessing the
micro environment of business.

1. Choose a newspaper article about an Australian or international business still in
operation published within last thirteen weeks from the submission date of this
assessment from the listed sources below (choosing an article older than the
specified period and/or from a source apart from the following will result in an
automatic fail for this assessment).

2. Write a business report identifying and analysing one micro environmental factor
(customers, competitors, suppliers, intermediaries or public opinion) of the
business from the chosen newspaper article incorporating the following:
a. Identify and analyse one micro environmental factor that influences the
chosen business specifically. The analysis must include how the micro
environmental factor has impacted the chosen business (e.g. what
change(s) has it brought to the business). It must be supported by data,
facts, figures or any other evidences. These changes may be in terms of
but not limited to changes in sales/revenues, costs, profitability, number
of customers, reputation, growth, market share, business structure,
policies, or impacting the business in any other way.
b. Through your research on the business, identify one potential challenge or
opportunity that may arise from any of the micro environmental factors
and make two recommendations about suitable course of action for the
business. The challenge or opportunity may not necessarily be from the

Structure of the report
Cover Page – It should include student name and ID, subject code and name, assessment
number, University’s name, lecturer’s name, submission date and word count. Be creative while
making your cover page.
Executive Summary – An executive summary should provide a succinct summary of the content
within the report. It should present information in such a way that readers are able to
understand the intention and key elements of the report without having to read the entire
document. This section is not included in the word count (Approximately 100 – 200 words).
Table of Contents – A summary of the sections (headings/sub-headings) and pages numbers.
Introduction – The introduction should briefly introduce the business’ products and/or services,
operating markets and general consumer category. It must also include how the company is
mentioned in the chosen newspaper article (Approximately 150 – 200 words).
Identification and analysis of micro environmental factor – This section should identify and
analyse one influencing micro environmental factor of the business. The analysis must include
how the micro environmental factor has impacted the chosen business (e.g. what change(s) has
it brought to the business). It must be supported by data, facts, figures or any other evidences.
These changes may be in terms of but not limited to changes in sales/revenues, costs,
profitability, number of customers, reputation, growth, market share, business structure,
policies, or impacting the business in any other way. These impacts may be positive and/or
negative. It must be mentioned in the newspaper article chosen from the above listed sources
and within the prescribed time period.
Identification of challenge or opportunity and recommendations – Through your research on
the business, identify one potential challenge or opportunity that may arise from any of the
micro environmental factors and make two recommendations about suitable course of action
for the business. The challenge or opportunity may not necessarily be from the same chosen
newspaper article. The recommendations must be thoroughly explained and justified.
Conclusion – The conclusion should provide a concise summary of the report. No new information
should be included in the conclusion (Approximately 50 – 100 words).
References – Torrens Academic Writing Guide – APA 7th for citing and referencing research must
be used. More information on referencing can be found on
https://library.torrens.edu.au/academicskills/apa/tool. References are not included in the word
count.
Appendices – This section should provide supplementary or additional material relevant to the
contents of the main text but which is too detailed to include within the body of the text.
You must include the chosen newspaper article in this section. Appendices are not included in
the word count. Appendices must follow APA 7th style.
