This assignment is designed to assess your ability to understand, integrate and clearly articulate psychological theory and the application of psychotherapeutic approaches to abnormal psychological functioning (e.g., psychopathology). Your paper will be 10 pages (not including the cover page and reference pages), double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font and will be formatted according to The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th ed. (APA). A detailed grading rubric will be provided the first week of class. You will be required to select a theory of abnormality such as psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, person-centered, gestalt, biological, etc. and a DSM-V psychological disorder such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc. You will then explore and describe your chosen theory of abnormality. You will then explore and describe your chosen psychological disorder through the “lens” of the chosen theory of abnormality covering topics such as etiology, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and expected outcomes of treatment (prognosis).
