Firstly, my field is arts and cultural management, and this essay will be written for the memory studies module. This is the general assignment question ” How and in what ways might recent concepts of memory (for example cosmopolitan
memory, multidirectional memory, communicative memory, mediation and remediation,
prosthetic memory, digital memory, nostalgia, memory activism) provide an enhanced
understanding of a memory text or practice? Address at least one theory discussed in the
module and one case study.” And according to this question, my paper will discuss ” how particular theories of commemoration can help us understand Shakespeare as he is remembered now?”
My plan for this essay mentioning two theories of commemoration
– a ritual of remembering ( Connerton, 1989)
– collective memory and commemoration ( Durkheim’s theory)
but I need to say this my lecturer warned me about these theories because they are not recent. If we stick to them, we should mention in the introduction that “they are recent in the sense of 100 years.”
