What will our research papers be on and why write a research paper in the first

What will our research papers be on and why write a research paper in the first place?
Students will be writing a research paper on one of the following topics on William Shakespeare’s Othello. If a student has a different topic, I need to see and ‘green light’ it before the student proceeds with it.
Discuss the issue of racism in Othello. Can it be related to the problems of racial hatred in contemporary society?
What makes Othello a tragic hero?
Why is Iago obsessed with Othello?
Analyze Iago or Othello, explaining the strengths and weaknesses of the character you choose to write on and the impacts of those characteristics.
Analyze the theme of love and jealousy in Othello.
Compare and contrast Desdemona and Emilia.
Explore different types of language Othello and Iago use in the play.
your research project will be 5-7 pages, including the Works Cited page. A minimum of three secondary sources are required in addition to Othello. I will bring a few to class and discuss them in the video I will post early this coming week, and students may use one of the articles I will discuss.
Watch not to allow the research to talk for you. Make sure your point is stated first before including the research. Just compiling a bunch of secondary sources does not make a research paper! Make sure your voice shines through!
The paper will open with your thesis and introduce what you will write about, developing the points you wish to make in body paragraphs. Your conclusion should restate in an original way, or with an original insight your findings. Make sure everything you write relates back to the controlling idea!
A NOTE ABOUT PLAGIARISM: if I find a paper has been plagiarized, it will receive a grade of F for the research project and will put the student at risk of failing. DON’T PLAGIARIZE! Always cite phrases not your own.
The paper will have standard MLA formatting. To make sure you include all the necessary aspects, look again at the Excelsior link: https://owl.excelsior.edu/citation-and-documentation/mla-style/
